Angelina Jolie Makes Humanitarian Trip to Afghanistan

Angelina Jolie has returned from a two-day humanitarian trip to Afghanistan this week, visiting poverty-stricken families, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The actress traveled Wednesday and Thursday to regions where thousands of former refugees have returned to the country to face crowded, squalid conditions.

"The courage, resilience and quiet dignity of returnee families rebuilding their lives against the kind of adversity few of us can imagine shows the human spirit at its best," Jolie said.

Jolie, 33, is a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR, which reported the trip on its Web site.

She has called for more international support for the returnees as winter approaches.

According to the UN, more than 5 million Afghans have returned home since the fall of the Taliban regime in late 2001. Another 3 million registered Afghans are still in exile in Pakistan and Iran.

Angelina: Thrilling to Work With Clint

As a mother of six, Angelina Jolie says she was tempted to turn down the role of Christine Collins in Changeling, a movie about a woman who loses her son to kidnappers, because of her own fears as a mom.

"I read it in one sitting," Angelina says in an interview for ABC News Now's "Popcorn With Peter Travers."

"And I was so angry as a mother that I didn't want to do it, I didn't want to touch it, I didn't want to think about anyone kidnapping my children. I didn't want to go near it," she confesses. "But I couldn't forget it and I couldn't stop thinking about her and I kept telling people about this amazing woman and so I realized that her story and the story of what she overcame and that she fought the system and who she was and I really wanted to tell it.

However when legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood called to offer her the part, Angie just couldn't say no.

"I got the phone call that he was, he was definitely going to do it and was OK with me doing it and I was jumping around the house," she reveals. "It was like getting my first job, I was thrilled. And it was everything and more that I hoped it would be as an experience."

The two Hollywood heavyhitters have big families in common – Clint is a father of seven – and Angie and partner Brad Pitt are almost as famous for their growing family as their movie roles.

"The important thing is you can only censor so much," she says of the constant attention globetrotters Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne attract.

"They'll find things. They'll find it at a friend's house. You've got to make sure they get enough good stuff and nice stories and good messages at home and got some purity to it. But I think it's also making sure they have a life outside all that pop culture and making sure they travel and see the world, they go outside enough and play dress up, and do all those things children should be doing so they get balance, so their mind is balanced," she said.

Jolie remains stylish despite being a mom!

She might be spending all her days nursing her new-born twins plus caring for her existing brood of four kids, but Angelina Jolie still manages to take out time for one of her biggest passion — fashion.

In a recent interview, Jen Rade, Angelina’s longtime stylist, revealed that despite being fully engaged in motherly duties, the ‘Tomb Raider’ star takes out time on the phone to discuss her sartorial options. “No, [it''s not tough], but she’s definitely got a lot going on. Any time you talk to her there’s a lot of kids in the background, that’s for sure,” People quoted Rade, as saying.

Currently, Rade is styling Angelina for the Changeling junket due later this month, as well as the film’s premiere on October 4. “It’ll be her first big US appearance since having the babies. I feel some pressure, but I think I can do it. We’ve been doing it for five years together,” said Rade.

When asked if it was difficult to find clothes that go with the new mum’s post-pregnancy body, Rade said: “Not really. It’s going to be fun. I’m looking forward to it.”

Rade described Angelina’s style as “kind of classic with a rock and roll edge” and says she loves working with Angelina because “she’s funny and smart.” And to add on to that, Rade claimed that the actress is a fab mom: “She loves it — or else she wouldn’t do it.”
